Jesus Christ: The Riches Of The Glory Of This MysterySample
The Personal Christ
Paul funnels his exposition of the person and work of Christ from the high metaphysical and broad cosmic levels down, finally, to the deeply personal and intimate level. He does this by saying that the infinitely great and cosmic Christ is the same Christ who enables him to toil and struggle “with all his energy that he powerfully works within me” (v. 29). But the presence and power of this Christ is not the reserve of the Apostle’s alone. Paul says that this Christ, in all His presence and power, is also available to us. This is “the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory” (v. 27).
The metaphysical Christ is also the personal Christ. The macrocosmic Christ is also the microcosmic Christ. The Christ of the telescope, the Lord of the heavens, is also, as it were, the Christ of the stethoscope, felt in every beat of the Christian heart. And it is “Him we proclaim” (v. 28).
