Teens' Top Questions About the Bible Answered

DAY 9 OF 12

Is It Wrong To Be Angry with God?

Job was angry because of his suffering, and he wanted to know why God had permitted it when Job had lived a righteous life. But God refused to answer him. It is natural to feel angry sometimes about life’s hardships and even to blame God for allowing bad things to happen.

The Bible describes all sorts of ways that people related to God. For example, Abraham bargained with God to spare Sodom and Gomorrah. Moses begged God to care for the people in the wilderness. Many of the prophets asked God to punish unbelievers. Even Jesus asked the Father to take away his suffering. Thomas expressed doubts about Jesus’ resurrection.

Because we are made in God’s image, God knows about our feelings and emotions, and he wants us to be honest with him about our feelings. But at the same time, we need to be willing to accept God’s will, even if it sometimes is difficult to understand. We should never become so angry with God that we insult him or lose our faith.
