Love God Greatly - Jonah

DAY 3 OF 28

Stop running from God and obey

Jonah knew without a doubt that God had raised the storm because of his disobedience, and he proposed a solution: “Pick me up and hurl me to the sea.” Jonah finally realized that there was no place to run. It was the time to stop running and start obeying God.

What Jonah was about to learn is that disobedience has consequences. God forgives our sins completely but we still have to deal with the consequences of our disobedience.

We need to be close to God and to be in His Word every day in order to know what He is asking of us. And, once we know it, we need to obey His commands. Sometimes these commands will be too hard or we won´t understand His will. But Scripture says, “To obey is better than sacrifices, and to listen than the fat of rams” (1 Samuel 15:22).

When we don´t understand God´s will or when we just simply don´t like it, we’re often tempted to things our own way. Have you seen how children hide from adults when they are about to be naughty? We do the same thing and try to hide from the presence of the Lord when we don´t accept His will for our lives.

Lord, help me obey Your will no matter how difficult it may be. Help me remember that You always have a plan and that You always have a purpose. I want to honor You and bring You glory always. Amen.
