Throughout Acts, Luke describes several firsts of the Church: the first message of the good news, the first healing, and in the case of Chapter 4, the first persecution. It is this first persecution of Peter and John by Jewish authorities for relentlessly sharing the gospel message that sets the stage for later and more intense persecution—ultimately leading to the death of Stephen in Chapter 7, the persecution under Saul before he is converted in Chapter 9.
This week’s verse gives us some key insight into how the gospel and the power of the Spirit impacted the first disciples. Refusing to recognize what Peter and John had witnessed, the resurrection of Christ, would be impossible. It is in this verse that we encounter the essence of what it means to be a witness.

Because ignoring the great commission is not an option. Jesus left us with the great responsibility to go and make disciples, to be witnesses, and to be his hands and feet in this world. Don’t leave something so important to chance. This reading plan is created to help you make disciples who make disciples. Use this reading plan along with the Awana Journey Bible Study book entitled Witnesses.
