The focus from Genesis 1 to Genesis 2 shifts from introducing God, His creation, and the prize of creation, humanity, to the instructions given to humanity. But because humans were created in the image of God, our purpose must also reflect that image. This is often called the Creation Mandate. From the very beginning God intended for humanity to be co-creators and co-laborers in overseeing creation.
However, the idea of work in the garden does not mean endless toil of the same mundane routine. It is descriptive of the creative work humanity is called to. This verse sets the stage for humanity as sub-creators in everything we do as a reflection of who God is.
Witnesses for the gospel do far more than just talk about Jesus. Witnesses use the gifts, abilities, talents, and desires—their entire lives—in order to create something that points back to and reflects the glory of God. Being a witness is about taking who God made us to be and using it to show who He is. Not only are we each a unique, original thought of God, but also each of us has been specifically built as a co-creator charged with the divine responsibility to proclaim the name of Jesus and the power of the gospel.

About this Plan

Because ignoring the great commission is not an option. Jesus left us with the great responsibility to go and make disciples, to be witnesses, and to be his hands and feet in this world. Don’t leave something so important to chance. This reading plan is created to help you make disciples who make disciples. Use this reading plan along with the Awana Journey Bible Study book entitled Witnesses.
