The Stories We Tell: 28 Days Of Truth-Telling For The Soul

DAY 26 OF 28

DAY 26 | FILLED WITH JOY

žcentering thought

“The most pleasing scent you can wear is the aroma of having been with Almighty God ...”

encouragement from God’s word

Read: JOHN 15:9-17

devotional direction

When you think of it, what could be easier than remaining in the love of God? Imagine the King of the universe looking at you with tender gaze and saying, “Beloved child, here is your agenda for today: Come. Sit before me. Hand me your every last burden, and trust that I will shoulder them in your stead. Let me love you unconditionally. Let me fill your life with joy.”

It is ludicrous, isn’t it, to envision declining such an invitation. “Thanks, but no, thanks, God,” we say, as politely as we know how. “I’ve got to get the kids’ lunches made … the report filed … the laundry into the washer … and my yoga class isn’t going to do itself, you know …”

“Remain in me,” our heavenly Father exhorts us, “and there, you will find joy.”

Joy that exceeds the satisfaction of a task completed.

Joy that exceeds the pleasure of having met the deadline at work.

Joy that exceeds the relief of finally getting caught up on chores.

Joy that soars higher than the elation of having endured a tough workout.

“What you’re after can be yours,” God gently reminds us. “But it is found only in me.”

question to ponder

What will remaining “in God’s love” look like for you today?

About this Plan

The Stories We Tell: 28 Days Of Truth-Telling For The Soul

Based on the "The Stories We Tell: Real Women. Real Lives. Real Love" Church Edition.  This twenty-eight-day devotional experience has been created for you to, in effect, think more carefully about what you’re thinking—about who you are and why you’re here and the role God longs for you to play in impacting the world around you for good. Consider carving out ten or fifteen minutes each day for twenty-eight days, during your first waking hours, perhaps, or just before you close your day and head to bed.
