Power Read The Bible In 60 Days With Jeff AndersonSample
Day 59
MORE… OF THE END
[Scheduled Reading: Hebrews, James, 1 & 2 Peter]
Hebrews Chapter 11 - it’s one of my favorite chapters in the Bible.
It’s known as the "Faith Hall of Fame" chapter - a roll call of faith heroes who lived life looking ahead to a reward. A reward yet to be received when they died.
(That means they were looking forward to their reward in heaven.)
Some of the unknown faith heroes referenced endured extreme persecution and fatal outcomes in exchange for these rewards.
They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword (Hebrews 11:37).
Remember, the prophet Isaiah was one of those who was reportedly sawn in two. (See Day 37 blog, Dirty Jobs)
Like Romans, Hebrews is another great book to circle back around to later for deeper reflection.
2 Peter is another “end time” themed book. Guard your salvation, make your calling and election sure, watch out for false prophets, be ready for the day of the Lord.
Sound familiar?
These are Paul’s themes also.
Peter, like Paul, was one of the central figures in the book of Acts and both suffered much for their witness. It reasons that they would share the same vision, hope, and urgency for the end times.
Ok friends, we’re really at the end. After today, just one day remains. And what an exhilarating read it is!
