3-Minute Devotions for MenSample
WORKING FOR A WAGE
You may be dissatisfied with your job. This is especially true if you’re beginning to experience burnout, if your tasks are monotonous, or if you’re working for a boss you can’t stand. The Bible reminds you that “in all labor there is profit.” You might not be at your dream job, but if it’s paying work, it’s better than nothing—at least until you can find something more rewarding. Paul advised Christians, “Use your hands for good hard work” (Ephesians 4:28 nlt). While you’d rather be working smart, not hard, working hard is scriptural. “Our people have to learn to be diligent in their work so that all necessities are met” (Titus 3:14 msg). You must not only apply yourself to your work, but keep at it faithfully, day after day, month after month. Although ultimately you’ll only be fully content when you’re doing what God designed you for, you can find a measure of contentment even in imperfect situations.
God, please help me! Some days my job seems like drudgery. May Your Holy Spirit fill me and give me contentment and joy—even here. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
