Overcoming TimiditySample
Timidity Among Believers
Have you ever had to pray out loud in a small group and you’re reluctant to pray because of other believers? We’ve all met that one person who is a professional prayer warrior. When they pray you’re sure Jesus is going to come back in that exact moment! Well, maybe not in that moment, but they do pray memorized bible verses, they pray boldly, speaking Jesus’ name in multiple languages, and pray with an intimate passion in their voice.
How many times have you been afraid to be transparent around other believers? Just like that professional prayer warrior, I’m sure you’ve also met the professional Christian! They’re perfect. From their clothes, their spiritual social media posts, and their “holier than thou” advice to other believers.
It’s easy for us become discouraged and think that we don’t want to pray out loud because we’re not as good at praying as others. It’s also difficult to be honest and transparent around believers who seem to look “perfect.” Here’s the good news! Jesus doesn’t care about your outside appearance. Jesus cares about your heart. He loves to hear from you. He loves everything you do for Him and His kingdom. Jesus will always love you unconditionally. We can have this mindset that if we’re not as talented in prayer, worship, leading, or teaching as someone else that we are insignificant. This mindset leads us to be timid in multiple areas in our walk,.
Focus: Jesus purposefully made you different. Different doesn’t mean insignificant! It’s so easy to become timid when we compare ourselves to other believers instead of running our own race. Don’t miss the purpose God has for you because you’re too busy trying to be something you’re not designed for, in order to impress other believers.

About this Plan
Has anyone ever called you timid? Timidity is defined as having a lack of courage or confidence. The Lord has recently given me a realization that I was being overcome by timidity and was completely unaware of it. Jesus wasn’t timid with his purpose when he took our sin and shame to the cross. Therefore I refuse to be timid in my faith for a God that courageously chases after me. This devotional will help you reflect on seven different areas of your faith where timidity may be trying to set in. I pray the Lord will give you an awareness of timidity in your life and will guide you as you overcome it.
