Fathers - a Father's Day Devotional by Rhett WalkerSample

FATHERS
DAY 3
Don’t stop…… believing…… You sang that in your head didn’t you? For real though, my song “Like Your Father Does” says,
Wherever you go
Whatever you do
I want you to know
There’s nothing to prove
I’ve always, always loved you
And I always, always will
I think about this as a father. My kids have nothing to prove to me. I am blown away by every move they make. We homeschool and they didn’t turn out dumb, mainly because my wife teaches them. I’m amazed by them. Do they frustrate the heck out of me sometimes? Yes. Do they make mistakes, you know, like other sinners do? Yes! Do they act like me? Yes. But, through all of that, there has never been a moment I have been too frustrated to look at them or too upset to tuck them in bed. My love for them is way too strong. That is how God views us. I know you know that, but let that really sink in. The average person spends almost 80 percent of their time worrying about mistakes, regrets and the future. What a waste. What if your kid told you, “Dad, I spend 80 percent of my day stressed?” You would immediately tell them there is no need because there is always a bigger plan than what we see in the moment. Yet, we look at the creator of the universe as though He decided to take a break and doesn’t know what we are going through. We have nothing to prove to Him. His love paid the price, so it’s time we live like that.
I think one of the best things we can do as fathers is to remember that Christ has never and will never give up on us. So, no matter what you’re facing or going through, or how crazy your kids might be right now, don’t give up because He hasn’t given up on you! Galatians 6:9 NIV says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

About this Plan

Join me in walking through this four-day devotional about fatherhood, balancing career and parenting, and how to be a Godly example for kids. Being a father is hard work but it's really rewarding. We're all still learning the things we're teaching our children and my prayer is that fathers never feel alone. -Rhett Walker
