A Moment With GodSample
WHEN GOD MARKS YOU, HE GETS YOU
When God marks us He gets us. When the Lord wants to fulfill His purpose through us and in us, no matter where we are, no matter what we are doing, He will get us. The timing of His call may not be according to our timing. He will call us in between our plans; Peter and John were called when they were mending their nets. It may be different from our dreams, for Him we matter and His purpose in our life is greater than our purpose in ours.
Mary never imagined she would be the One. Her private world was so small. From an insignificant village, all that she wanted was to marry Joseph and be happy. But the Lord wanted her for a greater purpose. Mary was taken aback. She was troubled. She wondered. She was afraid. When we find a divine intervention in the mundane activity of our life, we wonder: Why us? Mary's response was natural. The Lord understood her fear. He took time to explain to her and calm her down. The Lord never leaves us with our unanswered fears. He loves us and will deal with our fears.
Let us expect God's intervention in our everyday activity. The time He calls is when we least expect it. When Peter went fishing, when Mathew was working, when Moses was in the wilderness, when Samuel was sleeping, the Lord called them. Mary could not understand how she an insignificant, inadequate person could impact the world.
Are we willing to be used for a greater purpose? Our gifts, our talents, our skills are important. But what is most important is what the Holy Spirit will do in and through us. We just need to be willing. Of course the Lord knew her environment and her fears, he knew the insults and the humiliation she would face. He knew all these. Yet, he called her. Mary had a choice to accept it or reject it. She yielded to Him. Mary's response was: Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. Her response was based on:
- His Word. When the Lord gives His Word, He will not go back on it. The Word is authentic, authoritative and affirmative.
- His promises. His promises are true. He promised: The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. What was promised took a long time in the life of Jesus. There was discouragement, challenge and pain. But Mary persevered.
The One who calls us is faithful. Let us keep moving on. Faith is God at work. Let us keep on keeping on. God can do more things with us, in us and through us. Are we ready to respond? Are we ready to take our hands off? Are we prepared for our plans to be changed or disturbed by God? Let us live everyday expecting a divine intervention.
When God marks us, He will get us. The choice is ours.
