THE WORD, OUR DELIGHT

Blessed is the man whose desire and joy is the Word of God. His desire is to progress in the Word of God. Not to be influenced by ungodly advice. He does not seek the counsel of the wicked or long for the fellowship of the scoffers.

There is a marked difference between the one who delights in the Word and the one who desires the company of the wicked.

Being in the company of the wicked is not a sudden, spontaneous decision. It is a slow process: Walk. Stand. Sit.

We join them and then slowly we become part of them and ultimately we become one like them.

Are we influenced by the world and its values? Have the values of the world replaced the desires of the Word? Are we slowly sliding down? Are we in the same path like others?

The righteous are like a tree planted by streams of living water. There is a continuous flow for their growth, they are protected, they are not barren, their leaves do not wither and in all that they do, they prosper.

The wicked are not so. Why? Because their life is temporary.

They cannot face judgement. They are uncomfortable in the congregation of the righteous.

The righteous ones are not the ones with spiritual pride. They are the ones with a right relationship with the Lord. They are the ones who desire the Word of God, the ones who delight in the Word of God, the ones who dwell in the presence of God and the ones who have a right relationship with God. Their life is so different from the wicked. Their life is protected and guided by the Lord.

The Lord knows the way of the righteous but the way of the wicked shall perish.

Are we growing in the Lord? Do we long to spend time with the Lord? Do we enjoy reading the Word? If we feel low, dry and empty on the inside, then we need to introspect to see if we are walking with the Lord, if we have constant fellowship with Him and if we are dwelling in His presence.

Do we spend time reading the Word of God? We have replaced the Word with work. We have replaced obedience with sacrifice. It is important for us to know that the Lord delights in His children who delight in the Word. Where are we in our walk with the Lord? Are we growing in Him? Or are we walking in the counsel of the wicked. Beware. The next step is standing and ultimately we sit in the seat of scoffers. And that hurts the very heart of God.

But if we delight in the Word, there is a continuous flow of God's grace, mercy and faithfulness in our lives. We can enjoy the presence of the Lord no matter what situations we are in.

He who delights in the Word will never desire to be of the world.
