Our Role
Whole book reading: Leviticus 8 -12
Today's passage emphasizes the role of the priests and their duties. In the New Testament era all of us are referred to as a priest.
Qualities that help us be an effective modern-day priest.
- Priests are set apart and stand in the gap on behalf of those who are struggling to put their faith in Christ.
- We need to have regular communion with the Lord. In today’s scenario, it would be having a disciplined method of prayer and Bible reading.
- Getting into a discipline of fasting and prayer.
- Having a regular fellowship at church and small groups.
- Being accountable to mentors and mentoring others.
- Keeping ourselves pure from worldly pleasures. This is a relative term, but we need to follow what God wants each of us to do.
- We need to be examples.
- From the life of Nadab & Abihu we learn that we need to be sensitive to what God wants us to do and not do anything we please because of the authority bestowed on us.
The second emphasis is on the clean and unclean. A lot of the issues we read today may be difficult to do in today’s world. The important issue is we need to come up with a list of what is permissible for us.
Interesting observations people have come across.
- Someone mentioned that after a life-threatening sickness, the doctor advised a diet, which on scrutiny was the kosher diet described here. Maybe it helps to follow this diet.
- Every culture has a set of rules and regulations following childbirth which involves giving the mother rest for some time. It is a good principle to follow. We should remember these were the rules governing the Jewish nation and respect it as we need to respect it as we respect our culture.
Life is about finding our role on this earth.
