Lent Devotional: RestoreSample

Restore: Conflict
For children and young people, growing up in the midst of conflict is especially traumatic. What’s more, conflict can lead to animosity between different groups.
This animosity clouded Ramy’s experience growing up. Until he went on a journey learning how to forgive.
Today, he and his wife, Roula, run the Foundation for Forgiveness and Reconciliation in Lebanon, helping children and young people deal with the trauma of conflict and to forgive. Their work is transforming lives:
Hassan*, 13, is a Syrian refugee. He was attacked while trying to break up a fight at school. After learning why he was involved, his attacker felt ashamed, even offering for Hassan to hit back in return.
When asked how he wanted to respond, Hassan looked at the boy who had hit him and said, “No, I want to forgive you and not hit you back.”
Father God,
We pray for all those living through conflicts around the world,
please bring them comfort and peace.
We pray for the many peace-builders around the world,
please give them courage and strength to serve you.
Let them know that you are with them, and bless the work they do.
In your name,
Amen.
