When You’re Not Enough
We can do everything in our power to make our days go as planned—and still, somehow, feel like we’re falling just short of expectations. Striving for our own definition of perfection, or someone else’s, can leave us worn out, exhausted and disappointed.
Proverbs 3 teaches us that acknowledging God in all our ways gives Him the opportunity to redirect our best efforts from where they’re not enough to where they can thrive. While we know that He has equipped us for the journey, sometimes we forget that He walks alongside us as well. What does it look like to walk in lockstep with God in your daily life?
Sometimes it’s a deep breath before a decision is made, checking with Him about the potential step. And sometimes it’s a quiet, teary moment in the car before a big interview or a challenging meeting, before picking up a strong-willed child from school or walking into yet another parent-teacher conference, breathlessly asking for His fortitude and inspiration. 2 Corinthians 12 encourages us that God’s power is most effective when all we can do doesn’t cut it. He proves Himself more than enough in our weakest moments, directing our steps and carrying our heaviest challenges through to completion.
Let God define success for you today by allowing Him to influence your to-do lists, instruct your business plan, cultivate your parenting skills, advise your appointments, navigate your marriage or guide your studies. What He can accomplish in us with our permission, and through us in the lives surrounding ours, is far, above and beyond what we could achieve on our own.
