He Was Born For This - Preparing For Christmas Series #3Sample
Messiah is Lord
Thoughts on the Passage
Jesus uses this passage to show people (those who rejected Him) His claim as Messiah, because they refused to accept that a man could claim equality with God. Jesus shows them that God called a descendant of David as Lord and Master equal to Himself. It is a powerful passage when we understand that God prepared ahead of time to send Someone to this earth – who was equal to God Himself. For people who respected the Word of God but struggled that Jesus and the Father were equal – here is God Himself saying that it must happen.
God promised the Messiah would come from David. In His word, God promised this Messiah is Lord – Master. God promised… and He asks us to believe His word. It was a challenge that Jesus gave to the religious leaders as well. “Do you really believe the Word of God? Then you need to believe that the Messiah is God Himself.”
All mankind in every generation must deal with this word from God as well.
Time to Pray
Father, You declared Jesus as Lord and Messiah – Ruler and Saviour. It is the same message that Peter gave to the nations in Acts 2. There it touched hearts and people accepted it. Here the religious leaders refused. It speaks clearly to my heart about how the truth of Your Word clearly exposes our hearts. We can say we believe – but how we respond to the claims of Jesus shows whether we truly do or don’t. Jesus has many challenges that are just as challenging to us today – walking as committed disciples, serving one another, loving the family of God as well as all around us. So help us to not to ignore Your Words and the Words of Jesus. In Jesus’ Name Amen.

About this Plan
God prepared the world for Jesus the Messiah right from the very beginning. He made sure His world knew ahead of time that the Messiah was coming. This is 3 of 3 devotionals that give the prophetic pronouncements of the Messiah – and how they were fulfilled.
