Messiah would be Heir to David's Throne

Thoughts on the Passage

From a woman, through Abraham, through Judah – and now through David.  The promised One would come through the line of king David.  It also indicates that the Messiah is more than just a saviour – He is a king as well.  What kind of King will the Messiah be? Isaiah describes His rule by listing some of His names:

Wonderful

Counsellor

Mighty God

Everlasting Father

Prince of Peace

Each name describes the character of the King and victories that the King has accomplished.  As we look at the coming of Jesus, they also represent the victories that He will accomplish in our lives today. 

Time to Pray

Father, in this world, we need a King that releases peace.  Today I ask that the Kingdom of our Lord will release peace into this world.  It is the legacy of Jesus that He gives peace to a troubled world. I ask that it be released to  grow and that it will overcome the hatred and violence that the ruler of this world seeks to promote.  You start with bringing peace to the hearts of men, but also we pray for our communities, our countries and our families.  In Jesus’ Name Amen.
