Temos, porém, esse tesouro em vasos de barro, para mostrar que o poder que a tudo excede provém de Deus, não de nós. De todos os lados somos pressionados, mas não desanimados; ficamos perplexos, mas não desesperados; somos perseguidos, mas não abandonados; abatidos, mas não destruídos. Trazemos sempre no corpo o morrer de Jesus, para que a vida de Jesus também seja revelada no nosso corpo. Pois nós, que estamos vivos, somos sempre entregues à morte por amor a Jesus, para que a vida dele também se revele no nosso corpo mortal. De modo que a morte atua em nós, mas, em vocês, a vida. Está escrito: “Eu cri, por isso falei”. Com esse mesmo espírito de fé, nós também cremos e, por isso, falamos, porque sabemos que aquele que ressuscitou o Senhor Jesus dentre os mortos também nos ressuscitará com Jesus e nos apresentará a ele com vocês. Tudo isso é para o bem de vocês, para que a graça, que está alcançando um número cada vez maior de pessoas, faça transbordar as ações de graças para a glória de Deus.

Temos, porém, este tesouro em vasos de barro, para que a excelência do poder seja de Deus e não de nós. Em tudo somos atribulados, porém não angustiados; perplexos, porém não desanimados; perseguidos, porém não desamparados; abatidos, porém não destruídos; levando sempre no corpo o morrer de Jesus, para que também a sua vida se manifeste em nosso corpo. Agora nós mesmos somos como vasos frágeis de barro que contêm esse grande tesouro. Assim, fica evidente que esse grande poder vem de Deus, e não de nós. De todos os lados somos pressionados por aflições, mas não esmagados. Ficamos perplexos, mas não desesperados. Somos perseguidos, mas não abandonados. Somos derrubados, mas não destruídos. Pelo sofrimento, nosso corpo continua a participar da morte de Jesus, para que a vida de Jesus também se manifeste em nosso corpo. Sim, vivemos sob constante perigo de morte, porque servimos a Jesus, para que a vida de Jesus se manifeste em nosso corpo mortal. Assim, enfrentamos a morte, mas isso resulta em vida para vocês. Continuamos a pregar porque temos o mesmo tipo de fé mencionada nas Escrituras: “Cri em Deus, por isso falei”. Sabemos que Deus, que ressuscitou o Senhor Jesus, também nos ressuscitará com Jesus e nos apresentará a ele junto com vocês. Tudo isso é para o bem de vocês. E, à medida que a graça alcançar mais pessoas, haverá muitas ações de graças, e Deus receberá cada vez mais glória.

Entretanto, este tesouro precioso está encerrado num vaso de barro, isto é, no nosso corpo fraco. Todo mundo pode ver que o poder glorioso que está dentro provém de Deus, e não de nós. Este nosso corpo está constantemente enfrentando a morte, tal como aconteceu com Jesus; assim, fica bem claro a todos que a vida de Jesus é revelada em nosso corpo. Estes nossos sofrimentos são para o benefício de vocês. E, quantos mais dentre vocês forem ganhos para Cristo pela sua graça, maior será o número de pessoas que farão orações de agradecimento para a glória de Deus.

Porém nós que temos esse tesouro espiritual somos como potes de barro para que fique claro que o poder supremo pertence a Deus e não a nós. Muitas vezes ficamos aflitos, mas não somos derrotados. Algumas vezes ficamos em dúvida, mas nunca ficamos desesperados. Temos muitos inimigos, mas nunca nos falta um amigo. Às vezes somos gravemente feridos, mas não somos destruídos. Levamos sempre no nosso corpo mortal a morte de Jesus para que também a vida dele seja vista no nosso corpo. Durante a vida inteira estamos sempre em perigo de morte por causa de Jesus, para que a vida dele seja vista neste nosso corpo mortal. De modo que a morte está agindo em nós, e a vida está agindo em vocês. As Escrituras Sagradas dizem: “Eu cri e por isso falei.” Pois assim nós, que temos a mesma fé em Deus, também falamos porque cremos. Pois sabemos que Deus, que ressuscitou o Senhor Jesus, também nos ressuscitará com ele e nos levará, junto com vocês, até a presença dele.
