Hearing And Obeying - Disciple Makers Series #2Exemplo
Dealing with our Desire for Things
I am going to repeat this for three days and look at the three types of temptation that we face as described in 1 John 2.
The first – the desire of things for us.
Jesus needed bread – He had fasted for 40 days and was now starving. Hunger at this point is not just hunger, it is our body saying you will die soon without food. Jesus needed food. He could have made it, but instead He declares this – “God’s Word is more important to me than food. God’s Word will give me everything I need.”
Things for us are necessary – God knows that and He provided it. They only sustain our bodies, not our spirit. Feed your spirit every day. When our spirit is strong, then we can be sustained in any situation we face. When we cannot face a difficult situation – go to the Word, feed your spirit, sustain what must be fed to release life.
Time to Pray
Father, I have food today. It is a gift from You – thank you. I know that I look too much at the physical needs and not enough at my spiritual needs. Forgive me I pray. Today, when I get tired and exhausted, I ask that You drive me to Your Word. May I look to it for strength – for life. It will release it because You promise that to me. We all want things for us and so do I. Still, I want to love Your Word more than all of these things. So help me today I pray. In Jesus’ name Amen.

Matthew writes to God’s people and walks them on a journey that will take them from where they are to be Disciple Makers. This is the 2nd of 27 devotional plans walking us through the book of Matthew. Hearing God speak or doing what God requires is more difficult than we realise – because life can be complicated. Watch how people do it.
