Matt Redman - Your Grace Finds MeExemplo
Wide As The Sky
"Hands up, hearts open wide as the sky,
We lift You high, we lift You high.
Hands up, hearts open wide as we cry:
God we lift Your name high.”
Our culture likes to elevate a name. Whether it’s a person, a product, or a brand, so many names fight for prominence and sway in our worlds of music, politics, media and commerce. But the scriptures tell a different story:
“…at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Phillipians 2:10-11).
There will come a reckoning moment when we see in full just how meaningless and superficial all of these other quests for prominence really were. On that day, in the light of the glory of Christ, every other claim to fame will be eternally silenced. As C.S. Lewis so powerfully describes it:
“God will invade…When that happens, it is the end of the world. When the author walks on to the stage the play is over. God is going to invade, all right: but what is the good of saying you are on His side then, when you see the whole natural universe melting away like a dream and something else - something it never entered your head to conceive - comes crashing in; something so beautiful to some of us and so terrible to others that none of us will have any choice left? For this time it will be God without disguise; something so overwhelming that it will strike either irresistible love or irresistible horror into every creature. It will be too late then to choose your side. There is no use saying you choose to lie down when it has become impossible to stand up. That will not be the time for choosing; it will be the time when we discover which side we really have chosen, whether we realized it before or not. Now, today, this moment is our chance to choose the right side. God is holding back to give us that chance. It will not last forever. We must take it or leave it.”
I hope the words of this ‘Wide as the Sky’ song might become a worshipful prayer over your life today:
“Let all the other names fade away,
Let all the other names fade away
(Until there’s only You).
Let all the other names fade away –
Jesus take Your place,
Jesus take Your place.”
