The Gospel in the Old TestamentExemplo
Today’s verses refer to a prophecy given to Moses. God told Moses, “I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers.” Who would this Prophet be? Undoubtedly, the Prophet is Jesus. Even Peter confirmed it in Acts 3. But to get a better understanding of this prophecy we have to take a closer look at the similarities between Moses and Jesus. In fact, the life of Moses was in many ways a foreshadowing of the coming Messiah.
First of all, look at the similarities in their birth stories. Both Moses and Jesus were born at a time when the Israelites were facing oppression. They were both supposed to be killed as babies (Moses at the hand of Pharaoh; Jesus at the hand of Herod). And yet God miraculously saved both of their lives.
Moses was the mediator of the Old Covenant, and Jesus was the Mediator of the New Covenant (Romans 3:19-26).
Most of all, however, both Moses and Jesus are Deliverers. Moses was the one chosen by God to deliver the Israelites from slavery by the Egyptians. They had been in bondage for generations, and they were calling out to the Lord to be set free.
In the same way, God sent Jesus to deliver His people from slavery by sin. Jesus said in John 8:34-36, “I assure you: Everyone who commits a sin is a slave of sin. A slave does not remain in the household forever, but a son does remain forever. Therefore, if the Son sets you free, you really will be free.”
God spoke through Moses 1,500 years before Christ that there would come another Deliverer. A Greater Deliverer. One who would lead His people to Freedom. But that Freedom would be over a foe greater than the Egyptians or the Romans. This Freedom came over sin, and even death itself.
Have you experienced this freedom? You have a Deliverer in Jesus. If you are still a slave to your sin today, let the Deliverer bring you Victory right now.
