Pray to the God of Love and TruthExemplo
Pray for Personal Growth
Read It: 1 Chronicles 29:17-18
17 Since I know, O my God, that You try the heart and delight in uprightness, I, in the integrity of my heart, have willingly offered all these things; so now with joy I have seen Your people, who are present here, make their offerings willingly to You. 18 O LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, our fathers, preserve this forever in the intentions of the heart of Your people, and direct their heart to You;
Meditate On It:
1. According to David’s prayer, what does the Lord first look at in a person’s life? (v.17)
2. Read 1 Chronicles 28:9-10. What was David’s instruction to Solomon concerning his well-being?
9 “As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever. 10 Consider now, for the LORD has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary; be courageous and act.”
3. How can we check our hearts to ensure we are aligned with God’s plan and purposes? (v.18) What hinders us from practicing His ways in our lives?
Apply It:
When God spoke to King David about His plan for the Temple to be built by David’s son & heir, Solomon, David first examined his own heart and did the same for Solomon. He ensured their life was characterized by intimacy with the Lord, uprightness, joy, generosity, and faithfulness. He understood that the Lord was after character, not comfort or convenience. We must seek the Lord above all as we offer Him our hearts and minds.
1. I will take the time to confess my sins, shortcomings, and struggles to the Lord. I will ask for His mercy, grace, and renewal in my life.
2. How can I improve on the following areas of my life based on David’s personal prayer?
- Uprightness (being above reproach)
- Integrity (no compromise)
- Intentionality
- Joy
- Generosity
- Faithfulness
3. What habits can I practice to better care for my spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical well-being? Please set Simple, Measurable, Appropriate, Realistic, Timebound (SMART) commitments.
Example: “I will start prayer-walking for at least 10 minutes daily as I spend time with the Lord.”
Pray About It:
Personal Breakthrough:
- To be able to practice God’s presence in my daily life, moment by moment, depending on the Lord in humble surrender and reliance.
- For meaningful exercise of the spiritual disciplines (studying the Bible, prayer, fasting, and regularly joining in Sunday services.)
- To be constantly filled by the Holy Spirit and led by the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.
- For strength and determination to refrain from activities that are most likely to distract us from experiencing the fullness of God: excessive video games, social media (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok), entertainment (Netflix), and unhealthy busyness in our work and schedule.
- For God to grant us a spiritual breakthrough in such areas as:
- Pride, self-centeredness, secret sins
- Idolatry, greed, materialism
- Sexual purity, self-control, integrity
- Addictions (alcohol, drugs, pornography, digital/gaming, gambling, etc.)
- Bad influences, ungodly relationships, gossip, slander, lying
- Spiritual warfare and attacks of the enemy (suicidal thoughts & tendencies)
- Confess and ask forgiveness for sins, shortcomings, and any bondages or addictions; seek God’s restoration in our lives as we repent and surrender.
