All Things New

Father God, what I know of You will only ever be a fraction of who You are. Jesus, open my mind to see You and understand the Scriptures. Spirit, move my heart from familiar to fascinated until it is ablaze with Your unfailing love.

Read: Psalm 130:5-7

As our journey together in the God story comes to a close, I’m reflecting on the revelation given to John. At the end of the first century, under harsh Roman rule, amidst great persecution, Jesus unveiled a vision so majestic that John fell like a dead man. It was a wondrous promise that would anchor the Church down through the ages in hope.

Read: Revelation 21:1-7

‘I am making all things new.’ This is what God says, and what God does, it’s who God is. A future is coming where ‘There will be no more pain or suffering. Death will find its own grave. The pressure will end. Tears will be dried up. Sorrow will be no more. Sickness will be eliminated. Injustice will be ended. Satan will be completely vanquished.*

What I believe about the end of the story defines how I will live today.

Jesus, open my eyes like You did for John. Give me a revelation of all things made new. Help me join with You today as you make all things new.

Pause and pray

What is the pain around me that breaks my heart and compels me to action?

Jesus, I pray for Your healing, for Your new-creation life, and for Your kingdom to come where my heart breaks.

Pause and pray

Jesus is the beginning and the end of the story, the ‘Alpha and the Omega’. As musician John Mark McMillan wrote, ‘You are my future and my past.’** I may not know what the future holds, but I know the One who holds my future. I can relax and trust. God will one day say, ‘It is done!’

Father, I choose to relax and trust You today. I surrender to Your kindness, Your sovereignty, Your faithful shepherding of my life and soul. You are the author and perfector of the story!

Amen.
