Urgency of Miracles

Evidence is essential to winning any case, and it is essential in the kingdom of God, too. More can be accomplished through a single message of the biblical gospel, confirmed by miracles, than by years of teaching without supernatural proof.

Paul testified that, through the power of the Holy Spirit, Christ worked mighty signs and wonders through him to bring the Gentiles to obey God. The Bible says that God confirmed our great salvation through signs, wonders, miracles, and supernatural gifts. The gospel came to us with evidence, with proof.

The unbelieving world needs to hear Christian messengers who, like Paul, preach not with enticing oratory but with demonstrations of the power of the Spirit so that those who believe might base their faith on God rather than on human wisdom. People of any nation will follow messengers of daring faith whose preaching is coupled with the confirmation of signs and miracles as evidence—as a witness to the Living Christ.

A Catholic priest once attended one of our crusades. It was the first time he saw the message of the gospel confirmed by miracles. He was captivated by the simplicity of it all. Out among the people, standing on the field, in deep repentance for his sins and unbelief, he fell on his face and was gloriously born again. He gave his witness before the multitude of 75,000 people. In a weeping and trembling voice, he said: “When I came to this field, I saw no golden altar, no candlesticks, and no professional ecclesiastic. All I saw was a vast field of people, a crude wooden platform, a Bible, and a preacher of childlike faith in God. I saw Jesus Christ through that messenger, and I saw Him confirming His gospel with miracles. Now, I know that the Christ of the Bible is more than a religious figure. He is alive and real.”

A missionary of a historical church organization attended the crusade we held in his city. In the end, he witnessed the multitude. He said, “More souls have been saved in these three weeks than in thirty years of missionary activity without miracles.” For unbelievers to be convinced about Christ and His gospel, they must hear His teaching and see it confirmed by miracles that give witness to the truth spoken.

God, I may never preach before crowds. But, by the power of Your Holy Spirit, when I do share the message of Christ, confirm it through signs and wonders so all might believe.

Miracles and Our Witness

God wants His miraculous power to be continually in evidence in our lives. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit so we could bring the good news to those around us, trusting God to confirm the gospel with signs and miracles to draw nonbelievers unto Himself. This devotional plan is based on Dr. T. L. Osborn’s book Miracles: Proof of God’s Love.
