Know Your Bible Devotions for MenExemplo
What Should I Do with My Fear?
Have you ever been absolutely consumed with fear, so stressed that you couldn’t eat, sleep, or even think clearly? Life has a way of frightening us. Marital problems, conflicts with our kids, issues at work, and health difficulties can all make us fearful, anxious, and tense. In this fallen world, fear is a natural part of life. But Jesus promised that we can live an “abundant life” by learning how to handle our fears in a way that honors God. In today’s verse, the prophet Isaiah resolved to trust God and not be afraid — or, at least, not surrender to his fears. Centuries later, the apostle Paul echoed this sentiment when he wrote, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6–7 NIV). When life gets scary, remember these two things: (1) God is in control, and (2) He has promised to comfort and give you peace when you take your fears to Him.
