What the Bible Says About Generosity

Dia 24 de 30

Live it Out

We've talked about what the Bible says about generosity and why we’re called to be generous. Now it's time to challenge ourselves to walk the talk.

What does intentional generosity look like?

Is it signing up for every volunteer opportunity at church? Is it handing out your money to anyone who asks? How much generosity is truly enough?

In Matthew 25:35-36, Jesus reminds us that every time we care for those in need, we're actually caring for Him. When we feed the hungry or show hospitality, He says, "Truly, I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of Mine, you did for Me."

Our generosity is a direct expression of our love for Jesus. So the question isn’t so much about how much or how often we should give; it’s about walking closely with Jesus, listening to His voice, and being sensitive to the times and places where He calls us to be generous. The opportunities to practice this discipline are there for us every day, but how often do we miss them?

Many of us are too distracted to notice the needs of others. Our to-do lists are long, our families have needs, and sometimes we just want to zone out and scroll on our phones rather than see the people around us. But as leaders (and followers of Jesus), it’s our job to keep our eyes open and pay attention to who and what God may be placing in our path.

In the story of the Good Samaritan, several people passed by a man who was suffering in the middle of the road. Even a priest saw him and kept on walking! But the Good Samaritan took pity on the man. He didn't just give money; he gave his time, resources and influence. But the first step in helping the injured man was simply noticing him.

As Christians, let's not just talk about generosity. Let's lead the way! Let’s commit to fixing our focus on things that carry eternal significance. Let’s be sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s promptings and hold on to our resources loosely. We serve a God who loves to provide and meet our every need, so why wouldn’t we live a life marked by radical giving?

Make a decision today to be intentional in your generosity — not just with your wallet, but with your time, love, and compassion.
