The Morning Hunt – Day Seven – Take a Nap

A lion sleeps for fifteen to twenty hours a day. Lions burn a vast amount of energy when chasing down smaller prey or wrestling much larger prey, so those long naps help them store energy. A lot of that sleeping is done in the sun, maybe because it cannot find shade, or it depends on the heat to help digest its meals and prevent sickness. A male lion will often rest but not sleep with his eyes half open to ensure he can protect the Pride from intruders.

Our days need to be filled with rest in the Son. Long amounts of time spent with the Son prepare us for what awaits in the darkness. The world we live in as Men has the potential to take a lot out of us. Trying to balance providing for and protecting our families while also being a source of leadership can be exhausting. Then there are goals and hobbies, along with trying to grow and develop our faith.

Do not be overly anxious to complete anything if you have not first found your rest in the Son. Jesus does not want only to help you capture your day, but He wants to revisit and help us to digest or process those moments. Slowing down and finding rest helps to refresh us, it makes us more effective when collaborating with our community, and it allows us to hear the still, small Voice of God. There is always work to do; there are always more goals to accomplish, so do not burn yourself out; even Jesus took naps.

Matthew 11;28-30 NASB - 28 “Come to Me, all [a]who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will findrest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is comfortable, and My burden is light.”

Mark 2:27 NLT - Then Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made to meet the needs of people, and not people to meet the requirements of the Sabbath.

1 Kings 19:11-13 NLT - 11 “Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the Lord told him. And as Elijah stood there, the Lord passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave.

Psalm 46:10a - Be still, and know that I am God.

The Morning Hunt

The King of the Jungle. The symbol of Jesus and Kingdoms throughout history. The lion is one of the most majestic and awe-inspiring animals on the planet. Just as the lion is unique and designed to reign, so is God’s design for Manhood. The Morning Hunt is a 14-day Men’s Devotional that looks to teach valuable and practical lessons from a lion’s perspective.
