Do Not Forget! Some Crucial Things Every Christian Should Keep in MindExemplo
It is crucial to remember and keep the gospel message
“Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God. Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent.” (Revelation 3:2-3)
The book of Revelation presents seven letters to local churches. These letters were dictated by the Lord Jesus Himself. Today’s verses are addressed to the church in Sardis. Jesus had to warn them strongly: “You have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead.” (Revelation 3:1) This was a serious diagnosis of their spiritual condition!
However, Jesus did not give up on these people. He urged them to “wake up”. They should remember the teachings they had received earlier, and align their lives with these key truths.
In various other letters in the Bible, we are warned for false teachers, who bring in destructive heresies (for example in 2 Peter 2:1). These people lure believers away from the truth. Another danger is for Christians to “doze off” spiritually and to forget about the truths they were taught; or they know the gospel in theory, but rarely apply it to their everyday lives. In each of these cases, people don’t “remember and keep what they received and heard”. And apparently, that severely threatens their spiritual lives!
We are all warned by Jesus’ letter to the church of Sardis. Do we keep the gospel message and let it guide our daily lives?
Over the next few days, let’s delve a little deeper into some key elements of the gospel we should always keep in mind.
