21 Days in the Book of JohnExemplo
Did you know John was probably only around 16 years old when he met Jesus? What an amazing story he has! The name John is used 20 times in this book, but not once does it refer to the author. He never mentions himself by name, maybe because he recognized it wasn’t about him – it was all about Jesus.
Here are a few things I’d like to point out about Chapter 1:
- John starts this book the same way Moses started Genesis with, “In the beginning”. He was demonstrating that the Word existed before time. He wanted to set the foundation for our faith with the fact that the Word was a being, the being was God, but the being was also distinct – equal yet separate.
- The book of John is the only gospel to tell us how long Jesus’ earthly ministry was. In Chapter 1 he gives us details of the first 4 days. During these few short days, 6 men became disciples. They were Andrew, John, Peter, James, Philip, and Nathanael.
- In verse 46 Nathanael finds out Jesus is from Nazareth and asks if any good thing could come from there. This is because Nazareth was known for being immoral – history tells us that the nickname was “the town of garbage”. The Jews expected their Messiah to come from somewhere more appropriate.

John sets the foundation for understanding the Trinity and shows how Jesus is God. The purpose of John’s message was made abundantly clear when he wrote, “These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.” Join me as we read one chapter a day and learn about the deity of Jesus Christ!
