The richest people give the most

Giving is the basis of Christian financial living that will result in a life that is more rich, fulfilling, and satisfying. More importantly, it is God’s way. With the giving of your money and time to God, your church, and other charities and organizations, you are demonstrating your faith and are also being obedient by truly loving God with all your heart and soul.

In my book the Six Week Money Challenge for Your Personal Finances I write, “Rich or poor, it is the ones who don’t trust God with their finances who worry most about their money.” Let’s unwrap this a little by looking at two different scenarios. Take someone who has been blessed generously with financial resources and dutifully gives ten percent of their abundance, but doesn’t give it cheerfully or sacrificially.

Instead they write their check each week because their pastor said they must give ten percent. Take another person who is barely scraping by and each week still manages to give one percent, and when they give they do it cheerfully and sacrificially, and worry that it isn’t enough. Which person probably trusts God with their finances?

God does not need your money and you can’t buy your way into heaven, but these are a few points to ponder:

  • You give to demonstrate to God that you believe that everything belongs to Him and that He is the true provider for all of your needs.
  • If you are financially rich but spiritually bankrupt, all the money in the world won’t provide you with true peace or a joyful life because you will live your whole life chasing something that will be left to someone else when you eventually die.
  • It is better to give a little something when you have nothing, then to give a little something when you have everything, because God is more concerned with how you give, not how much you give.

If you have never given in the past start with a small amount. It does not matter if it is just one dollar or one percent. If you are already giving, challenge yourself to give more and see how God opens the windows of heaven for you and pours down His blessings!

The financial situation in America is challenging and uncertain; families are in trouble. But we serve a mighty God and His ways are tested and proven time after time. Steve Repak faced the same challenges that others face: being spiritually and financially broke. God had a purpose for Steve’s life: a calling to financial faithfulness. Whether you are financially rich and spiritually broke, spiritually rich and financially broke, or anywhere in between, we challenge you to become a better steward of your financial resources so you can focus less on your temporary security and more on your eternal security.
