A Welcome that Extends Mercy

Thoughtful Questions:

1. Why do you think Jesus quotes Hosea 6:6 to the Pharisees, “I desire mercy, and not sacrifice”? What does this mean? What does it tell us about God’s heart?

2. In the story of the healing at the pool, we are told the name of the pool, Bethesda, which means House of Mercy. What is mercy? What do you think it means to show mercy to someone?

3. When do you find it difficult to be merciful? Think of specific situations or relationships (family, friends, co-workers, others). Since Christ desires that we show mercy (even to those who seem undeserving), what is one small way you can extend mercy to anyone you thought about (above)?
