Here I Am, Lord: Devotions from Time of GraceExemplo
I’m Afraid My Money Will Run Out
I put on a brave face for my family. I don’t want any of my friends or coworkers to know. But, Lord, you know the heart, and you can read me like a large-print book. You know how anxious I am about our finances.
I’m afraid our money will run out. We’ve suffered some setbacks; we’ve made some bad decisions I would do anything to undo; some things I was counting on turned out to be a bust. I’m juggling bills right now and just can’t seem to get ahead. I feel cursed sometimes--cursed to struggle with money issues my whole life.
You say that you will never leave or forsake me. You say that the believers will never beg bread. Your Word tells me, “He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes, with the princes of their people” (Psalm 113:7,8). Father, keep that promise. I ask you for daily bread and you have delivered every day, right on schedule. Help me trust you and believe your gracious promises. Take away my fear and replace it with joyful confidence.
After my time of financial stress, I know you will bring relief. Father, I don’t need to sit with princes--could we start with just enough to pay the credit card bills? I am glad to be your child!

God knows that our tongues and brains sometimes lack the words to say, and so he provided the beautiful book of Psalms in his Word to provide vocabulary for us to bring our thoughts and concerns to him. These devotions, one for each day of the month, use psalms to help you voice your needs and hurts and joys to the Lord.
