Can You Say No? - Proverbs 25
Self-control is simply the ability to control yourself. Can you say no to you? Self-control is like walls around your life that keep good things in and bad things out. It’s not based on how we feel. You could say it is the ability to push past how you feel and do what you know is right.
We need self-control in all areas of our life – how we spend our money, what we eat, time management, etc. We’ll never be perfect, but we should strive to do our best and honor God with our life. In the New Testament, Titus gives us a powerful promise. Titus 2:11-12 states, “For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.” It teaches us to say “no” to ungodliness and worldly passions and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present age. It’s important to be led by the Spirit, so you don’t become legalistic because God does want you to enjoy your life. I have found that moderation is an important key, and from time to time, it’s good to say no to myself to prove I can do it!
“Father, thank you for the strength to say ‘no’ to the wrong things and ‘yes’ to the right things. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
