[Revelation] At The ThroneExemplo
Worship Is The Primary Activity In Heaven
One of the first questions people have about heaven is, what are we going to do up there for all of eternity? The answer is fairly simple: We will worship. Worship is not just singing and raising our hands at church. Worship is the active way we choose to live our everyday lives. Life on earth is essentially a practice round for heaven. In heaven, we will be fulfilled because we will be able to freely worship, without any earthly restraints... Now, that is a party!
However, we will not be alone in our worship. Revelation tells us that there will be 24 elders on thrones worshiping with us. There are different theological theories as to who these elders are. One theory is that the 12 New Testament apostles and the 12 Old Testament tribes make up those 24 apostles, representing a wholly redeemed church. Others believe that these 24 are the exalted angelic order or the 24 divisions of the Levitical priests. Regardless of which of these theories is true, we know that we will be joined by all the angels and creation worshiping God for eternity.
There are also angelic creatures worshiping in heaven. They include a lion, an ox, a man, and an eagle. It is believed that these represent God’s attributes: the lion represents His majesty, the ox His faithful labor, the man God’s intelligence, and the eagle His supreme sovereignty. Imagine what is awaiting us in heaven! Take comfort in worshiping a holy God who possesses these incredible characteristics and is fully worthy of our worship. He is not only holy in heaven, but also on earth. Even in our times of grief and pain, He is a holy God, One who knows the outcome and holds all the answers while reigning in heaven. He is always on the throne, He is the Jewel of Heaven, and He is worthy of our worship now and forever.
Prayer: Father, we thank You for allowing us to reflect on Your Word today. We are excited for what awaits us in heaven. Prepare our hearts and help us worship You in spirit and in truth today, and for all the days of our lives. Remind us that You are sovereign and holy. We can trust that You know what is best. In Jesus’ name, amen.
