Day Three: Worshiping Through Questions

A few short weeks after my wife Kristen and I started dating, I moved to another state to attend college. We decided that in order to make a long-term relationship work, we needed plenty of communication. So, we would stay on the phone for hours at a time, playing “The Question Game.” How original. The game itself is pretty self-explanatory; one person thinks of a question and the other person answers it. Of course, these exchanges were filled with funny stories and embarrassing moments, but before long we were sharing our heart’s desires. The more we learned about each other, the more we wanted to know. With time, that pursuit helped us establish a deeper connection and I gained a newfound appreciation for who Kristen is.

As Christians, we’re often warned not to question the ways of the Father. But - news flash - God isn’t afraid of our questions. In fact, one of the worst things we can do for our faith is stop asking questions. The beauty of a Heavenly Father that’s so infinite and complex is that each time we come to Him there’s more to discover.

We find our answers when we spend time getting to know God for ourselves instead of just learning about Him. For example, we may not fully be able to see every detail of God’s plan, but we can rest in the fact that He knows what He’s doing. We might not understand why God allows some things to happen, but we can trust His character and know that His ways are higher and always better than ours. Worshiping through our questions means choosing to glorify God even when it doesn’t make sense.

Today’s big idea:

When you find yourself with big questions about God, push past all the other voices and bring them straight to the source. Pursuing God’s heart is a beautiful journey.
