Take This Job and Love It Exemplo
DAY TWO
MY PLANS OR HIS PLANS
As we read in Day One, scripture tells us whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.
In Greek, the word whatever is translated as, you guessed it... WHATEVER. In other words, it doesn’t matter what we do—whether it be digging ditches, preparing taxes, playing professional football, or writing music—we are to do it as if we are working for Him, as if He is watching us and cheering us on, which... He is.
Life often takes unexpected twists and turns that don’t fit our plans. It sure did for me. After an incredible run in Music City, I found myself back home in Oklahoma unable to do what I loved, and out of necessity, I found myself doing something that I, well, to put it mildly, disliked very much, every waking minute of it. But instead of being thankful for God’s provision, I was bitter.
I can remember waking each morning to His glorious sunrise in a grumpy, thankless mood, questioning why I wasn’t still in Nashville and wanting so much to tell my new boss to take this job and shove it.
I was so honed in on how miserable I was in my job, that I neglected to be thankful for so many other things, especially those things I took for granted, like having an income to support my family, a home with electricity, clean water to drink, food to eat, my health and my family's health, the good fortune and freedom to live in a free country! And the list goes on and on.
Man, how clueless—and far from God’s will—was I!
I needed to repent. I needed an attitude adjustment. I needed a new dream.
PRAYER FOR THE DAY:
God forgive me for not praising You in all my circumstances. Forgive me for not thanking you for all you have given me. Thank You for giving me another day to grow closer to You. Thank you for providing all of my needs. As I look back on my life, I’m reminded of all the times You held me close to You and never let me go. Thank you for loving me. In everything, I trust You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen
