The destruction of the world is coming
by  Rev. Roger Woller

Why didn’t someone tell me this was going to happen?

This question is asked by someone who never believed what God’s Word told him or her. This person will ask this question when the end of the world happens. He or she had his or her lifetime to listen but didn’t want to hear it or believe it.

• This person scoffed, mocked, and laughed at anyone who told him or her what God’s Word says about the end of the world.

• This person scoffed, mocked, and ridiculed what God’s Word says about the creation of the world. He or she said it is ridiculous to believe that God created the world and everything in it in six days by His all-powerful Word.

There will be an end to this world; an end to everything in it. When will it come? When will it happen? We do not know! God does not tell us the exact day or time. God does tell us that a day of judgment and of the destruction of the ungodly will come. If you believe what God’s word tells you, you will never ask the question, “Why didn’t someone tell me this was going to happen?”

Do you know the reason why this world will come to an end? It is because of sin—your sins and my sins. We do not live in a perfect world, like the one that God created in the beginning. Sin ruined that perfect world. God did not destroy the world when our first parents sinned. If He had, we would not exist. We would never have the hope of living in new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

After sin came into this world, God promised a Savior from sin, death, and the devil. He kept that promise. Jesus, our Savior, was born, lived, died, and rose again for us. He paid for our sins. Jesus made us right in God’s eyes. God truly is patient with us, not wanting anyone to perish but all to come to repentance.

Jesus promised to always be with us even to the end of the world. When we die, or when the world comes to an end, Jesus will take us to be with him in heaven, where there is no sin. He will give us a new and perfect world in which to live forever.

That is why Peter tells us in 2 Peter 3:14, Therefore, dear friends, as you look forward to these things, make every effort to be found in peace, spotless and blameless in his sight.

Prayer: Dear Lord, continue to give me your peace, and help me to be spotless and blameless in your sight until you take me to be with you forever. Amen.
