Roaring Twenties FastExemplo
Less Is More
"He must become greater; I must become less." (John 3:30)
Fasting is a reminder that just like John the Baptist, we also as disciples of Jesus need to decrease. And in that less of us, there may be more of Christ. When we fast, whether it’s food or purchases, social media or streaming, slowly there is a decrease of us in our flesh. Decreasing declutters the depths of our beings. In the kingdom of God, our less is best because is means more like Christ.
Jesus modeled emptying himself of himself when he went away in the wilderness to pray and fast. Ultimately, He was triumphant over temptation, trials and testing. This shows us that part of being like Christ is self-denial and spiritual increase. When we pick up our crosses daily to follow His example, we are denying our own preferences and preferring His way above our own.
When we decrease intentionally, we are making rooms in our spirit for an awakened desire of God. A deepened dependence. A desperate delight. There is a promise of deeper depths, higher heights, longer lengths, and wider widths in the knowledge, experience, and understanding of the love Christ has for us.
Prayer:
Lord, I just want more of you! Take me deeper. Draw me closer. Make me more aware of you than I’ve ever been before. I delight in you! If less of me means more of you – then that is all I want! Such a beautiful exchange.
