Keep Knocking
By Aaron Wronko
Have you ever asked God for something and when the answer didn’t come right away, you decided to figure it out on your own? Take a look at today’s reading plan. God promised Abraham a son. But when the promise took longer than expected, Abraham and Sarah decided to take matters into their own hands and Ishmael was born. When we do what Abraham and Sarah did, it causes us to stop asking and seeking God. Why ask God in faith and why seek Him when we’ve come up with our own solution?
When we live a lifestyle of asking, seeking, and knocking, we are consistently coming before God. In Matthew 6:33, Jesus tells us to “Seek the kingdom of God above all else.” This isn’t something we just do once. Seeking—praying—is how we set our compass. Prayer is how we live. The God of the universe has extended to us an invitation to continually ask, seek, and knock.
It was 13 years before God came back to Abraham to talk about the promised son that Sarah was destined to birth. Isaac was a son of faith, in the same way God wants us to walk by faith. After all, it takes faith to continue asking, seeking, and knocking.
There are times in life when we feel confident to pray and to seek God. But there are also times when we hit roadblocks. We feel discouraged. The wind has been taken out of our sails, and we don’t see the answer we’re looking for. What do we do in those times? We keep on asking and seeking. We do this because when we communicate with our Father, it’s an ongoing dialogue. God loves the relationship; He loves the conversation; and He loves to see you walk in faith.
What are you believing God for? What have you been seeking God about? What doors are you asking Him to open? Keep on asking. Keep on seeking. Keep on knocking.
Prayer
God, I’m so grateful that I can have an ongoing conversation with You. Thank You for allowing me to come to You with my struggles. I will put my trust in You and continue seeking You in every area of my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Memory Verse
“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened." Matthew 7:7–8
