Telling your story

There is nothing more profound than listening to the story of somebody who has been rescued by Jesus.

Every story is dramatic in its own way. It may not be a Hollywood blockbuster but if it’s your story it will be meaningful for those who love you and know you. Telling your story takes courage but it builds in you a strength that will keep you going.

I have lots of stories. There is the story of Jesus saving me (becoming a Christian) as a teenager. There is the story of Jesus saving me from drowning in big surf. Or the stories about life, love and relationships. God has helped me as a husband, as a father and as a leader.

This man in our story had a dramatic saving and found incredible freedom. He wanted to leave with Jesus but he was told instead to go back to his family and friends and share the mercy that God had shown him. The region this man told his story in was the Decapolis and was the centre of Greek culture. It could very well be the same place Jesus was referring to when He told the story of the prodigal son.

God finds us in a place that breaks us and wants us to live free in that same place so that everyone can see the great things God can do in everybody. Our stories give other people hope.

I know it could be scary to live in the freedom Jesus gives you while in the same place that He rescued you. Most of the fear comes from not knowing how to tell our story. But there’s not much you have to say, let your life tell the story.

Considerations:

  1. Why am I wanting to live my story somewhere else?
  2. How can I keep living in the freedom Jesus promises so that my story has more chapters?
