The Biblical Benefit Of HindsightExemplo
The movie ‘Passion of the Christ’ was distressing in its brutality. The depiction of Christ crucified brought me to tears. As we approach Easter, I find myself again focussing on the massive sacrifice made for me and the peace and healing it delivers to me. It was Mel Gibson’s own hand in the scene where the nails are being driven in. And it could just as easily have been mine. Confronting as it is, it is a salient reminder of extreme suffering, extreme sacrifice and, of course, extreme love.
Do you sometimes stop to reflect upon Jesus’ suffering 2,000 years ago and what it brought you?
Pray: Dear Lord God, may we never forget the suffering that Jesus endured, as well as your great love for us in sending him to die for our sins. Thank you Jesus, and may our lives reflect our love and gratitude to you for all you’ve done for us. Amen.

The irritating benefit of hindsight is that it is often easier to see why we should have listened to biblical wisdom when we suffer through trials and difficulties. The one thing I keep learning is that the wisdom was there all along; I just needed to look for it. It is one thing to have faith in your head. It is quite another to live out that faith in your heart, day by day.
