The Source of Peace

As previously mentioned, peace was broken in Genesis 3 when Adam and Eve brought sin into God’s good and peaceful world. The peaceful relationship between God and man, and man and one another, is now hostile and damaged.

Often times, when hostility exists between two parties, a mediator is needed to stand in between the two parties and bring reconciliation. The mediator’s sole job is to restore peace between the two, to bring flourishing back into their lives. Therefore, what is needed to restore peace between us and God is also a Mediator. In order to have peace with God, someone needs to reconcile us back to God, bringing peace into our lives. A long time ago, Isaiah would tell us that this Mediator would one day come, and that He is the Prince of Peace (9:6).

Who is this Mediator that Isaiah wrote about? Who is this Prince of Peace? Who is this person who would offer to reconcile us back to God and bring true peace into our lives?

Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you.” (John 14:27)

Jesus said, “My peace I give to you.” (John 14:27)

Jesus said, “in me you may have peace.” (John 16:33)

Jesus is that Mediator. Jesus is the one who would stand between God and mankind in order to restore peace, to reconcile our relationship with God. When Jesus was born, peace came into our world!

Families With Young Children

Read Isaiah 26:3. KIDS, The Bible tells us that our God gives us perfect peace when we fully trust and rely on Him. The Bible also tells us that Jesus wants to be our very best friend. When we trust and rely on our friend, Jesus, we receive the peace we need. God sent Jesus to be our friend and our helper. How cool is it to have a best friend who desires for us to have peace on the inside and the outside!

Talk about how important your friends are. In what ways can you be a helper to your friends, to your parents, to your grandparents, to your brother/sister, to your neighbors and even to others that you don’t even know.

Read Luke 2:6-7. KIDS, How exciting that baby Jesus was born! Yet how scary would it be to need a place to stay and be unable to find one? However, Mary and Joseph knew that God would take care of them, and He did! Where did they stay for the night? (a barn behind the inn) After baby Jesus was born was He placed in a comfy cozy bed? (no, he was placed in a manger)

As you pray, take a look around your room and thank God that He has given you a bed, a room and a home! Thank Him for finding Jesus a place to be born and for sending Him here to be our helper in all areas of our lives.

121 Advent

The birth of Christ, His advent, marks God's ultimate plan for our redemption. In Christ, we see the fullest picture of God's hope, peace, joy and love. God's Word is the truth by which we know and walk with Him daily. It is our hope that this guide will encourage and facilitate personal time spent in the Word and provide a resource for families with children to do that together.
