The Two Hurdles Of God’s WillSample

The Two Hurdles Of God’s Will

DAY 5 OF 8

Jesus is present in the Exodus

Together these three signs gave proof of God’s power to accomplish His purpose. Remember, His will is always accompanied by His power. The staff that became a snake and then a staff again; the leprous hand that was concealed, then revealed whole and restored; and the water of the Nile turned to blood— all of these miracles conveyed His power. They also reveal more to us in the pages of the New Testament. The gospel is right there in Exodus: the wooden staff of the shepherd Moses foreshadows the wooden cross of the Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ, whose heel was bruised by the serpent Satan, but who crushed the head of the Deceiver and won the victory over sin and death. This same cross is the vehicle for our cleansing from the “leprosy” of sin, making us pure and acceptable in the sight of God. And the blood that was shed on the cross by Jesus Christ is our lifeline and the power that sustains us in life and in death.

You wouldn’t worry about what “they” might say with that kind of power on your side, would you? You wouldn’t constantly check your approval numbers among men if you knew the power of Almighty God was behind His plan for your life, would you? In light of His power, the hurdle of “they” seems insignificant.

“Gregg,” my high school youth minister said, “God could really use you if you quit worrying about what everyone else thought of you.” His words were well timed and true. The world’s opinion is no match for the power of the God of God’s will. I’ve discovered since that day that it is actually easier to please God than man. Man is fickle, God is stable, and so I can clearly understand what kinds of “oranges” please Him.

About this Plan

The Two Hurdles Of God’s Will

Hurdles can impede us in finding and doing the will of God. Moses, our “guide” in discovering the God of God’s will, drew near to the burning bush on the backside of nowhere, and heard God speak to him there. But as soon as Moses heard what God had to say, he encountered two significant hurdles— and those same two things can become barriers for you and me.
