DAY 14 OF 21

Jesus on the Job

The name Christian was first used in the book of Acts as a diss to people who were acting like Jesus. The "diss" ironically was embraced as a compliment because that’s precisely how we want to be seen: Jesus imitators. For me, to be a Christian in 2014 is to be as Jesus would be if he were a mild-mannered, (handsome, if I do say so myself) black, 25 year old rapper living in Tampa, FL. Ask yourself: If Jesus had a Twitter would he say the things that you say? Would Jesus treat his co-workers the way you do? How would he go about working your job?

The basis for asking what would Jesus "do" is the gospels’ explaining what Jesus already "did." Jesus came to this Earth, lived life like us (without sinning), and worked a very common trade. That alone speaks beautifully to what work is! The Son of God makes it clear by working a lowly, regular trade (carpenter) that what you make and what you do is not nearly as important as who you are and who you do it for.

Whether we are flipping burgers or selling houses, we are God's people. Everything we do "in His name" is sacred and eternal—from preaching to plumbing. Our bosses should always get our best not because they pay us, but precisely because they don't. Never get it twisted. God provides for us through our bosses, and ultimately, our reward is not at the end of a pay period. Christians all share the same employer and work for the same reward: God and His kingdom. Our motivation is fueled by our longing to hear our Father one day say, "Well done my good and faithful servant." In addition, God is a provider and owns all provision. Any work that provides resource, safety, enjoyment for people is God providing for people through you. To be like Jesus on our jobs is to kill it with all our might because God is watching and to represent Him well since we know He gives to people through our jobs. All jobs done for Him have great dignity. Worship Him today by working unto Him!

About this Plan

KB - 100

Respected as an artist and as a lyricist, every word out of the mouth of rapper KB is God inspired. With his 2014 EP '100', the Reach Records emcee breaks down the idea behind always giving God 100% in everything. He says, "To do everything unto Him is to work like our lives are not ours but His. It's when we give "100" God is honored and this world impacted. That's what my new EP is all about."
