TAKING GOD AT HIS WORD
What a twist! God promised a child to aged Abraham and Sarah, for which they waited many years. Finally the miracle birth occurred, bringing Abraham and Sarah great joy. Now, the boy was to be given back to God in sacrifice by his father’s own hand.
With stunning immediacy, Abraham set out on the journey. What feelings rumbled in his heart as he and the youngster hiked is left to our imagination. We know only that he obeyed, believing God would provide a way to fulfill his promise. Hebrews says Abraham believed that God could raise the dead (see Hebrews 11:19).
Just about everything that happens to us tests our faith. We seem not to have enough money to give, though God says he will always meet our needs. Will we believe? We want to take revenge, but God says he will avenge. Will we believe? Christ died for our sins and says he will take them away if we will but trust in him. Will we believe? Accept God’s promise and discover God’s blessing.
PRAYER
Lord, I believe in your promise to . . .
