God Is Powerfulਨਮੂਨਾ

The word “powerful” is used so much that sometimes it feels like it has lost all its meaning or… power… 😉. Songs, quotes or movies are often labelled as “powerful”; though that may be true, there is nothing and no one more powerful than our God!
God’s power has many facets, which I invite you to explore with me this week.
Let’s start with one revealed in the first book of the Bible: His might. In fact, in the Book of Genesis, we can read how God introduces Himself as God Almighty:
“When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless. Then I will make my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.” – Genesis 17:1-2
One of God’s favourite ways of showing His might is using seemingly “flawed” people to do great things.
Abraham is one of the first on that list. He and his wife Sarah could not conceive, but God made Abraham the father of many nations. Only an almighty God can do that! Abraham was not the only one:
- Noah got drunk.
- Joseph was a slave.
- Moses was a murderer and stutterer.
- Gideon was afraid.
- Rahab was a prostitute.
- David was a murderer and adulterer.
- Elijah was suicidal.
- Isaiah preached naked.
- Jonah ran from God.
- Ruth was a widow.
- Peter denied Christ.
- The disciples fell asleep while praying.
- Zacchaeus was short.
- Saul (Paul) persecuted Christians.
- And Lazarus was dead!
All of these people were used mightily by God. His strength shone through their weaknesses so that He, not man, would be glorified.
“But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. so that no one may boast before him.” – 1 Corinthians 1:26-27,29
And if God could use them, He can use you!
My friend, get ready to be surprised by the mightiness of God, who wants to glorify Himself through you. Like Abraham, look at the stars in the heavens and remind yourself that for God, nothing is impossible.
