STEPS by John Ortbergਨਮੂਨਾ

THE SOLUTION: HE CAN
Today we look at Step Two: believing that a power greater than us can restore us to sanity. (That’s God!)
Isn’t it incredible how often we talk ourselves out of doing what we know we should? “But I’m too tired. But I don’t have the resources. But I might fail.” Those two words—“But I”—hold so much power over us, keeping us stuck in fear and inadequacy. They’re excuses that allow us to stay in denial and avoid stepping into what God is calling us to do.
We see this pattern all throughout Scripture. Abraham said, “But I’m too old.” Moses said, “But I’m slow of speech.” Esther said, “But I haven’t been called by the king.” And yet, God never denies their inadequacy. Instead, He introduces two other words that change everything: “But God.” These words signify hope, transformation, and the beginning of something new.
Wherever you’re tempted to stop with “But I,” God steps in with a promise: “But God.” Weakness doesn’t disqualify us—it’s the very thing God uses to display His strength. The story of your life doesn’t have to end with your limitations. It can begin again with His power.
Consider that today and choose to say, “But God” instead.
TODAY'S INVITATION:
Take a moment to reflect on an area of your life where you’ve been stuck in “But I…” Name it clearly. Then, imagine what “But God…” could look like in that same area. Write it down if it helps, and let it be a reminder throughout the day to shift your focus from your limits to His limitless power.
