7-Day Devotional: Set Apart: Trusting God's Sovereignty in Singleness and Childlessness

DAY 2 OF 7

Day 2: Trusting God When Plans Don't Align

Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

At times, we may struggle with disappointment or confusion when our personal desires for marriage or children don’t align with God’s will. These unmet desires can lead us to question whether we are truly living according to God's plan. But Proverbs 3:5-6 teaches us to trust God with all of our heart and not rely on our own understanding. His ways are higher than our own, and His path for us is always good—even if it leads us down unexpected roads.

The story of Sarah and Abraham is a powerful reminder of trusting God's timing. Sarah longed for a child but struggled with infertility for years. She was tempted to take matters into her own hands by encouraging Abraham to have a child with Hagar (Genesis 16), but God’s plan was far greater. At the appointed time, God blessed Sarah with Isaac, showing that His timing and purposes are perfect, even when we don’t fully understand them. Like Sarah, we may need to surrender our own plans and trust that God's way is best.

Prayer:
Lord, it is hard to trust when my desires seem unfulfilled. Help me to let go of my own understanding and rest in Your perfect plan. Teach me to trust in Your timing and Your sovereignty, knowing that You are always working for my good. Help me to submit to You fully, even when it’s difficult, and to find peace in knowing that You are in control. In Jesus' name, Amen.
