In a world where we’re taught to climb the ladder, take the best seat, and be admired, Jesus tells us that real life comes through service. It’s like that inner tension we feel: one voice says, “Get to the top, show everyone you’re worth it,” and another says, “Follow Me, trust Me, and you’ll find what you’re really looking for.” The disciples felt this same pull—cultural pressure to prove themselves and Jesus inviting them into humility, where true life is found.

We all hear these two voices daily—one that pushes us to be independent, achieve, and get what we "deserve" and another that calls us to be humble and follow the example of Jesus. So, where do you hear these voices the most in your life? How do you handle them? Do you let the desire for success take over, or do you pause and listen to Jesus’ call to serve and trust in His plan for you?

Pray:

Jesus, give me the grace to see clearly when my desire for recognition takes over. Help me remember that real life is found in surrendering, serving, and trusting You. Open my heart to follow You with humility, letting go of my need to prove myself. Amen.
