5 Ways to Grow in Faith With Your Partner This Year

DAY 2 OF 5

Day 2: Create a Shared Gratitude Jar

Gratitude is one of the most powerful ways to shift your perspective and align your heart with God’s. When life gets busy or challenging, it’s easy to forget all the blessings He places in front of us each day. That’s where the idea of a shared gratitude jar comes in — a simple yet meaningful way for you and your partner to grow in faith together.

Here's how it works. Find a jar, a box, or even a basket, and place it somewhere special in each of your homes — perhaps on a shelf or a desk. Keep a stack of small slips of paper or sticky notes nearby, along with a pen. Each week, take a moment, whether you're together or apart, to jot down things you're grateful for. These could be big moments, like an answered prayer or a work promotion, or smaller joys, like a kind word, a stunning sunset, or a laugh shared over a silly joke. The aim is to recognize how God is moving in your lives and highlight the blessings you might otherwise miss.

The beauty of this practice is that it helps both of you develop a spirit of thankfulness, not just for your personal blessings but for the ways God is at work in your relationship. When you write something down, you’re making a declaration of faith. You’re saying, “Thank you, Lord. I see You in this. I know You’re here with us.”

At the end of each month, plan a time to sit down together and go through the jar. Pull out one note at a time and read it aloud. Reflect on each blessing and share what it means to you. Some entries might make you laugh, while others may bring a tear to your eye as you remember how God provided exactly what you needed in a tough moment.

This practice isn’t just about remembering the good times — it’s about building a foundation of trust. When you reflect on all the ways God has shown His faithfulness in the past, it becomes easier to trust Him with your future. And when you do this as a team, it strengthens your bond, reminding you that your faith is woven into the life you’re building together.

The gratitude jar will become a beautiful testimony of God’s goodness over time. It doesn’t have to be perfect, and you don’t have to write something every day. The key is to be intentional and open your eyes to His blessings, big and small.

Today, find your jar and get started. Gratitude has a way of multiplying, and as you practice it together, you’ll find your hearts growing closer to God — and to each other.
